Man arrested following stabbing in Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH — A 20-year-old New Bedford man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a stabbing at the Capri Motel that occurred the previous day, Dartmouth Police said.

Isaiah Ventura was taken into custody at 7:25 a.m. on Aug. 22 by Dartmouth Police detectives from the Community Impact Unit, patrol officers, and Massachusetts State Police Troopers from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, as well as detectives from the Fall River Police Department Major Crimes Division.

The arrest came after police responded to a 911 call at 12:01 p.m. on Aug. 21 from the motel at 741 State Road.

Witnesses reported a fight involving a knife.

Officers arrived on scene and found a male with a stab wound.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ventura is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife).

Dartmouth Police Chief Brian P. Levesque commended his team for their quick response.

“I am proud to see the unwavering dedication that members of this department have, it shows a true commitment not only to the Dartmouth Police Department but more importantly, to keeping our community safe,” Levesque said. “Due to the steadfast collaboration of our detectives, officers, dispatchers and all involved, the suspect was quickly identified and taken into custody without further incident or threat to the public.”
