GEORGIA — A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon on multiple charges following a standoff that lasted over four hours.
Matthew Richard, of Georgia, is accused of aggravated domestic assault, burglary, unlawful mischief, and violating conditions of release.
He is set to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.
The incident began around 8:30 a.m. when police responded to a report of Richard attempting to break into a home on Sand Hill Road near Wildwood Drive.
Richard allegedly threatened a family member with a machete and then barricaded himself in a nearby residence.
Concerns arose that he might have had access to a firearm.
State police, including specialized units such as the Crisis Negotiation Unit and Tactical Services Unit, as well as local agencies, responded to the scene.
Negotiators communicated with Richard until about 2 p.m., when troopers used flash-bang devices to prompt him to exit the home.
He was apprehended by tactical unit members without further incident.
Richard was jailed on an outstanding arrest warrant with bail set at $10,000 related to a previous case involving an assault on a law enforcement officer.
