BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a Cambridge man on firearm charges after a traffic stop on Thursday evening.

At about 6:24 p.m., on Aug. 22, police patrolling near Washington Street and Erie Street noticed a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker.

The officers initiated a traffic stop using their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens, pulling over the vehicle at Blue Hill Avenue and Brunswick Street.

Upon stopping the vehicle, officers observed that neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing seat belts.

When the occupants refused to exit the vehicle after repeated requests, officers eventually managed to get them out.

A pat frisk of the vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm.

The weapon, identified as a Glock 29, had one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine.

Abdul Omer, 32, was subsequently arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Omer is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
