SOUTH BURLINGTON — A 44-year-old transient woman was cited early Tuesday morning for allegedly smuggling heroin into the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.
Mindy Champagne, currently an inmate at the facility, was observed by a correctional officer at approximately 12:35 a.m. concealing multiple wax bags on her person.
Tests conducted on the substance within the bags returned positive results for heroin.
Champagne now faces charges of transporting narcotics into a detention center and possession of heroin.
She has been ordered to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Oct. 10.
