NEWBURYPORT — Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in tracking down a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured a bicyclist on Tuesday.

At 4:43 p.m., Newburyport Police responded to a collision at the intersection of Pond Street and High Street where a cyclist was struck by a vehicle.

According to witnesses, the incident involved three bicyclists traveling east in the bike lane on High Street when the second rider was hit by a west-bound Mini Cooper, potentially a Clubman model, as it made a left turn onto Pond Street.

The car, described as a newer model in a grey/green color, fled the scene heading down Pond Street toward Route 1.

Police believe the vehicle will show damage on the passenger side and could possibly bear New Hampshire license plates.

The Newburyport Police Department is urgently requesting that residents, drivers, and local businesses check any available video footage—such as dash cams or security systems—that could have captured the vehicle before, during, or after the collision.

Anyone with information or video evidence is encouraged to contact Inspector Chris McDonald at [email protected].

The investigation is ongoing, and the department hopes that community cooperation will lead to locating the driver responsible for the crash.
