Fairfield police warn of scam calls impersonating officers

1 min read

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield Police Department is alerting the community about a recent wave of scam calls where perpetrators are pretending to be law enforcement officers from non-existent agencies such as the “Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department” or the “Fairfield County Police Department.”

The scammers are reportedly using the names of actual Fairfield officers to appear credible and are falsely claiming that the individuals they call are in legal trouble.

They are demanding callbacks and engaging in scare tactics to pressure victims into complying with their demands.

The Fairfield Police Department emphasized that it would never request immediate payment to avoid arrest, nor would it ask for personal information over the phone.

Additionally, the department would not ask for payments through gift cards or wire transfers, methods commonly used by scammers.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to contact the Fairfield Police Department directly at 203-254-4800 if they receive a suspicious call.

This action allows individuals to verify the legitimacy of the call by speaking with an actual police officer.

The police are actively investigating these incidents and are seeking to prevent residents from falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.
