Pittsfield police warn of EZPass scam text messages

1 min read

PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield Police Department issued a scam alert yesterday after one of its officers received a fraudulent text message claiming an outstanding toll charge on their EZPass.

The text message appeared to be an alert directing the recipient to a payment link for an unpaid toll.

Upon closer examination, officials confirmed that the link was part of a phishing scam designed to deceive individuals into revealing personal and financial information.

The police department emphasized that EZDriveMA, the official tolling program for Massachusetts, does not request payment via text messages.

Citizens are urged to be vigilant and to avoid clicking on links from unsolicited or suspicious messages claiming to represent EZPass or any other official service.

Authorities are investigating the source of the scam and are asking anyone who receives similar text messages to report them to the Pittsfield Police Department.

The department reminds residents to always verify the authenticity of any communication requesting payment or personal information.
