Boston man arrested for aggravated assault with a knife

BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a man for aggravated assault after he allegedly chased people with a machete around 10 Park Plaza.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on Tuesday when police responded to reports of a man threatening individuals with a machete.

Boston Police Operations provided a suspect description, and officers located the individual at the intersection of Boylston Street and Charles Street.

The suspect, identified as 51-year-old John Madej of South Boston, reportedly assumed a fighting stance when approached by police.

However, officers were able to quickly apprehend Madej without incident and found a hunting knife in his front right pants’ pocket.

Madej has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon.

It was also discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.

He is set to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.
