VERNON — A local woman has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly striking a parked dump truck and fleeing, officials said.

The Windham County Sheriff’s Office said Baily Strange, 25, of Guilford, was driving a blue 2000 Toyota Camry when she hit the Zaluzny dump truck on Fort Bridgman Road on the evening of Aug. 2.

Corporal Ian Gallup, the investigating deputy, reported the incident was brought to their attention on Aug. 5, following a social media post seeking information.

The crash was said to have occurred sometime over the previous weekend.

Strange was taken into custody on Aug. 20 and processed at the Sheriff’s Office.

She was cited to appear in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on Oct. 29.

In addition to the hit-and-run charge, Strange received tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle and failing to carry liability insurance.

The Sheriff’s office credited tips from the public with helping to locate both the vehicle, which was found in a neighboring town, and Strange.

There was no bail set for her release.
