BARNSTABLE — A Yarmouth man facing multiple warrants made a brief escape from police custody on Monday before being recaptured, authorities said.

Jatayvyn Stone Crayton, 25, was transported to Barnstable Superior Court for a hearing when he broke free from an officer and fled the scene.

Police said Crayton, who was arrested Sunday evening on three outstanding warrants, managed to escape while being escorted into the courthouse.

The incident sparked an immediate search, with Barnstable Police and Trial Court Officers quickly responding.

Crayton led the pursuing officer on a chase across Route 6A and through a business district before eluding capture.

After a brief search, Crayton surrendered to authorities, claiming he had sustained an injury.

He was taken back into custody without further incident.

Charges related to his escape are anticipated, according to the police.

The Yarmouth Police Department has not released additional details about Crayton’s original charges or the nature of his injury.
