BRIDGEPORT — In the early hours of Saturday, gunfire erupted near the intersection of Stratford Avenue and Carroll Avenue, prompting an urgent response from local law enforcement.
Bridgeport Police were dispatched around 2:25 a.m. following a ShotSpotter alert, a technology that detects and conveys the location of gunfire to police.
The system’s quick notification led officers and the Emergency Operations Center to the east end scene where the tragic events unfolded.
Residents in the vicinity reported hearing several shots and seeing two individuals struck by the gunfire.
Upon arrival, police found a 28-year-old Bridgeport woman unresponsive on the sidewalk by 1365 Stratford Avenue.
Suffering from what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds, she was pronounced dead at the scene by medical responders.
A second victim, a 30-year-old Bridgeport man with multiple gunshot wounds, was later discovered at a local hospital.
The man, critically injured, was also believed to have been shot on Stratford Avenue.
The Bridgeport Police Department’s Detective Bureau, with the Homicide Squad at the helm and support from the Forensic Identification Unit, has taken up the investigation.
They are actively interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and undertaking the delicate task of notifying the victims’ next of kin.
Authorities have determined that multiple shooters were involved in the incident and are urging the community to come forward with any information.
