MANCHESTER — A tractor-trailer accident involving a compact car injured two people and caused a major shutdown of Interstate 293 on Aug. 16.
State Police from Troop B in Bedford responded to a call at about 6:35 a.m. to the scene at mile marker 6.4 on I-293 southbound near the Granite Street overpass.
They found a tractor-trailer entangled with a guardrail and dangling off the overpass.
The initial investigation revealed that Abel San Agustin Tolentino, 33, of Manchester, driving a blue 2007 Toyota Yaris, made an unsafe lane change and collided with the tractor-trailer, operated by Tyler Warner, 24, of Canaan.
The Yaris spun out, stopping in the wrong direction, and Warner swerved to avoid a second collision, which led to the tractor-trailer’s precarious position on the overpass.
Both Tolentino and Warner were taken to Elliott Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
The accident forced the closure of all southbound lanes and the Exit 5 offramp for about six hours, with traffic rerouted at the Amoskeag Rotary.
Troop B received assistance from Troop G, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, the Manchester Police Department, and the Manchester Fire Department.
While no charges have been filed as yet, the crash is still under investigation.
Witnesses or individuals with information are encouraged to contact Trooper Isaiah Acquaye at (603) 223-4381.
