1 min read

LEVANT — A Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office vehicle sustained damage during a pursuit of a speeding car early Friday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began around 7:15 a.m. when a deputy patrolling Route 222 spotted a red Kia Soul sedan with a Maine temporary plate traveling at what was described as “criminal speed.”

As the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle made a dangerous left turn, nearly causing a collision with an oncoming car.

The deputy followed the sedan as it turned into a private driveway on the Kenduskeag/Levant Road.

The pursuit continued around a residence, leading to the deputy’s vehicle sliding across a grass lawn and ending up in a ditch while trying to navigate back to the roadway.

The red sedan managed to escape from the property and was later seen by another deputy, but it was not pursued further due to its erratic speed.

No injuries were reported from the incident, but the sheriff’s cruiser was left with front-end damage.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the red Kia Soul.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 207-947-4585, or to submit a tip through the mobile app’s tip line.
