BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s District B-2 in Roxbury apprehended a Randolph man on firearm-related charges following a traffic stop on Friday, Aug. 17.

Yanni Julien, 30, was arrested around 2:20 a.m. after officers, while patrolling near Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road, identified a moped matching the description of one involved in a shooting at 397 Geneva Avenue.

Boston Police Operations had provided details of the stolen moped and a potential suspect earlier.

Upon approaching two mopeds at a red light intersection, police signaled for a stop, causing one of the operators to make an illegal U-turn and escape.

Julien complied and stopped his moped.

During the stop, a pat frisk revealed a firearm in a fanny bag across Julien’s chest.

Despite an attempt to flee, officers quickly detained him.

The weapon was identified as a Taurus 62S, loaded with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.

Julien now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

His arraignment is set for Dorchester District Court.
