Boston police arrest man for firearm and drug charges after search warrant

BOSTON — Boston Police Department’s Dorchester Drug Control Unit arrested a man Friday evening after recovering a firearm and drugs during a search warrant execution.

At about 7:10 p.m., on Aug. 16, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) took John Russ, 41, of Boston, into custody on firearm and drug charges following an ongoing investigation at 1445 Dorchester Avenue.

During the interaction with Russ, officers advised him of the search warrant for his person.

A search led to the discovery of a firearm in Russ’s waistband.

The weapon, identified as a Heckler and Koch firearm, contained one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine.

A serial number check revealed the firearm was stolen.

In addition to the firearm, officers found fourteen paper folds containing approximately seven grams of crack cocaine and quantities of marijuana indicative of distribution.

Russ now faces multiple charges, including Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, Having a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Receiving Stolen Property, Armed Career Criminal 1, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
