SPRINGFIELD — A shooting at a local barbershop Thursday morning led to a high-speed chase and the arrest of three men, along with the seizure of a loaded firearm, Springfield police said.

The incident began around 10:10 a.m. when officers on an extra detail were alerted to shots fired at a barbershop on the 500 block of St. James Avenue.

Shortly after, a vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene.

C3 Unit officers spotted the suspect vehicle as it turned onto State Street from St. James Avenue.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old Victor Cabrera-Quinones, evaded police by weaving through traffic and running red lights before being stopped in congestion and surrendering.

Police recovered a firearm capable of holding 12 rounds of ammunition from Cabrera-Quinones’ vehicle.

He faces multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Officers at the barbershop detained Jesus Cabrera, 45, and Juan Rios, 38, as they attempted to dispose of a shell casing linked to the shooting.

Both were charged with tampering or destruction of evidence, among other offenses.

No injuries were reported in the shooting.

Cabrera-Quinones also had outstanding warrants from Lowell District Court for assault and unlicensed vehicle operation.
