PLYMOUTH — A local man was ordered held without bail after being charged with the murder of his 73-year-old father, officials said Thursday.

Matthew Paluzzi, 26, entered a plea of not guilty to a murder charge in Plymouth District Court following his arrest in connection with the fatal stabbing of his father, Anthony Paluzzi, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

Police were called to the Paluzzi residence at 15 Cedar Road at about 6:26 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call about an unresponsive man with a severe neck laceration.

Officers and emergency personnel discovered Anthony Paluzzi covered in blood and pronounced him dead at the scene.

A kitchen knife was found near the front door.

Following the incident, an alert was issued for Matthew Paluzzi and his vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Murano.

A motorist spotted the car in Kingston and contacted authorities.

Paluzzi was subsequently arrested during a traffic stop by Hanover Police and Massachusetts State Police on Columbia Road.

He had bloodstains on his clothing, and a test indicated the presence of blood on his hands.

The state’s Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The case, prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney David Cutshall, continues to be investigated by the Massachusetts State Police and Plymouth Police.

Paluzzi’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 2.
