MANCHESTER — A local man prompted a police chase Thursday morning that ended with a splash in the Merrimack River.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., Manchester Police, in collaboration with Hillsborough County Sheriff Deputies, observed a man later identified as 41-year-old James Zimont of Manchester, abruptly jump over the railing of a walking bridge at Cleveland and Second Streets and begin a hasty retreat on foot.

Zimont, who had three active drug-related warrants—one from Manchester and two from other agencies—led authorities on a pursuit after hurdling a fence at a nearby business and sprinting south along the highway.

A K9 unit joined the chase, with the police dog, Grimm, successfully tracking Zimont to the river’s edge.

Despite commands to halt, Zimont entered the water, only to be pursued by Grimm.

Ultimately, Zimont surrendered to the officers and was apprehended without further incident.

Following his capture, Zimont now faces additional charges for resisting arrest.

Manchester Police expressed gratitude for the support of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies, crediting the swift and safe resolution of the incident to the joint effort.
