LANESBOROUGH — A single-vehicle collision on Partridge Road claimed the life of a Cheshire woman Wednesday afternoon.
Lanesborough Police Department, Fire Department, and ambulance services responded to the incident located between 782 and 785 Partridge Road at approximately 1:10 p.m. They arrived within 90 seconds to find a Nissan Rogue engulfed in flames after striking a tree.
Despite quickly extinguishing the fire, first responders discovered the body of 47-year-old Susanna Thomas in the driver’s seat.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene with severe burns, according to law enforcement officials.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed in the 35 mph zone before the crash.
A neighbor reported hearing a loud boom, leading to the 911 call.
No evidence of braking was found at the scene.
Multiple agencies, including the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office and the State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section, were at the scene.
The Cheshire Fire Department provided Mutual Aid assistance.
