BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a Newton man on firearm-related charges following a traffic stop in Roxbury late Thursday night.
At about 10:10 p.m., officers assigned to District B-2 observed a vehicle operating recklessly near Quincy Street and Blue Hill Avenue.
The car did not slow down before merging into traffic, prompting police to initiate a stop near 4 Maybury Street.

After further investigation, the police asked the occupants to exit the vehicle.
A pat frisk of the passenger, identified as 31-year-old Mandell Johnson, revealed the presence of a firearm.
Johnson attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed.
The driver of the vehicle was found to have a suspended license and will be summoned to court.
Police recovered a Mossberg MC1-SC handgun with a round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.
The firearm’s serial number had been removed.
Johnson faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
