Motorcycle rider killed in collision with truck in Simsbury

SIMSBURY — A motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Hartford Avenue (Route 189) and Main Street resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider early Tuesday morning.

Simsbury Police responded to the scene at approximately 6:04 a.m. on August 13, where they discovered a crash involving a 2020 Ford F350 and a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle in the Tariffville section of town.

The motorcycle operator, identified as 61-year-old James Ferreira, received immediate medical attention upon emergency personnel’s arrival.

Ferreira was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Melvin Pineda, 43, the driver of the Ford F350, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the authorities as they investigate the incident.

The Simsbury Police, alongside the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad, are working to determine the cause of the fatal collision.
