ANTRIM — A Hillsboro resident was apprehended Wednesday night following a high-speed pursuit that sped through several communities.
At 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 14, Antrim Police Sergeant Christensen, while patrolling the downtown area, observed a vehicle ignore a stop sign at the intersection of Concord Street and Main Street.
The vehicle headed north on Clinton Road as Sergeant Christensen attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights.
The driver, however, did not comply and accelerated away at high speeds.
The chase continued with the suspect eluding Sergeant Christensen’s sight near the intersection of Clinton Road and Old North Branch Road.
Officer Girard of the Antrim Police joined the pursuit, trying to stop the vehicle at the junction of Clinton Road and Keene Road.
Again, the driver refused to stop, reaching speeds over 100 mph heading east on Keene Road towards Hillsboro.
Hillsboro Police Officers took the lead as the chase entered their jurisdiction.
Spike strips were deployed by the Henniker Police Department near the Henniker Street exit on US Route 202/NH Route 9, which successfully impaired the vehicle.
The suspect continued for about a mile before halting in Henniker and surrendering to the authorities.
The driver was identified as Gabriel Stumpfol, 28, of Hillsboro, New Hampshire.
Antrim Police have charged Stumpfol with two counts of disobeying an officer, reckless operation, negligent driving, speeding, and two counts of stop sign violations.
He was detained at the Hillsborough County Jail, awaiting arraignment at the Hillsboro District Court.
The Antrim Police Department acknowledged the assistance of both the Hillsboro and Henniker Police Departments in the successful apprehension of the suspect.
