HINGHAM — A woman accompanied by four children walked into the Hingham police station this week, handing over a found wallet containing nearly $600, in a selfless act of honesty.
The wallet, which was discovered near a Downtown Hingham ice cream shop, contained only a credit card along with the cash.
Despite not leaving their names, the family’s good deed didn’t go unnoticed by the local authorities.
Hingham police officers were able to use the credit card to identify and contact the wallet’s owner, a resident of a nearby community.
The owner expressed immense gratitude when contacted by the police, relieved to have her money returned.
The police department shared the uplifting story as a reminder of the community’s integrity and the importance of doing the right thing.
The unnamed woman and children have been praised for their honesty and for setting a positive example for the community.
