WATERBURY — The Waterbury Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force has been active in recent days, arresting two individuals for the illegal operation of off-road vehicles in residential areas.

On Aug. 8, the task force took into custody a 14-year-old male juvenile from Waterbury who was found riding an ATV illegally on Oakwood Avenue.

The juvenile, whose name has been withheld due to his age, faces charges related to the unauthorized use of the vehicle.

Continuing their crackdown, ATTF officers arrested 23-year-old Lance Morales on Aug. 10 after he was caught illegally operating a dirt bike on Vermont Street.

Morales has been charged accordingly for his activities.

The recent arrests are part of the Waterbury Police Department’s ongoing efforts to address the illegal use of ATVs, dirt bikes, pocket bikes, and other non-permitted recreational vehicles in the city.

The department has made it clear that it is dedicated to proactive enforcement to ensure the safety and peace of local neighborhoods.

Waterbury Police also encourage residents to actively participate in these efforts by reporting any illegal operation of these vehicles or sharing information on known storage locations of such vehicles.

Community cooperation is seen as a vital component in the effective policing of this issue.
