Tewksbury police seek suspect after mail carrier threatened with firearm

TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus announced Wednesday that the Tewksbury Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a person involved in an incident where a firearm was reportedly brandished at a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at about 11:04 a.m. near 483 Shawsheen St. Responding officers observed the suspect’s vehicle speeding on Whipple Road and pursued it to Tomahawk Drive, where the individual abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

A comprehensive search was launched involving the Massachusetts State Police Airwing, the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT Team, drones, and K-9 units.

Police circulated a Code Red message to residents in the vicinity and provided updates on social media.

During the search, a Tewksbury Police K-9 found a firearm behind a residence on Grasshopper Lane, believed to belong to the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, dressed in a dark sweatshirt and mask.
