Suspect arrested in Downtown Crossing stabbing, victim expected to survive

BOSTON — Boston Police Department officials announced an arrest in connection with an early morning stabbing that occurred at the intersection of Washington and Winter Streets in the Downtown Crossing area.

At approximately 8:13 a.m. today, District 1 officers responded to reports of a stabbing outside of 10 Winter Place.

Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male with multiple stab wounds.

The victim received immediate medical attention and was transported to a local hospital by Boston EMS.

Initially believed to be life-threatening, the victim’s injuries have since been upgraded, and he is now expected to survive.

Homicide Unit detectives initially took charge of the investigation due to the severity of the injuries.

Further inquiries led to the arrest of 33-year-old Boston resident Calvin Spencer, who was initially detained on outstanding warrants for Larceny over $250 and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Following the investigation, Spencer is now also charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon in connection with the stabbing.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Thursday.

As the victim’s condition has improved, the investigation has been handed back to Area A-1 Detectives.

The Boston Police Department is actively reviewing the facts and circumstances around the incident and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
