TEWKSBURY — Tewksbury Police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly threatened a U.S.
Postal Service mail carrier with a firearm on Tuesday, Chief Ryan Columbus reported.
The incident occurred on Aug. 13, around 11:04 a.m., when police received a call about an individual brandishing a weapon at a mail carrier near 483 Shawsheen St.
Officers responded promptly, spotting the suspect’s vehicle speeding along Whipple Road.
A pursuit led them to Tomahawk Drive, where the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
The search extended to Nightengale Lane, where the suspect was last sighted.
To apprehend the individual, Tewksbury Police mobilized a significant response, including the Massachusetts State Police Airwing, the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT Team, drone operators, and K-9 units.
Residents in the vicinity were alerted to the situation via a Code Red message, and updates were shared on social media platforms.
A firearm, believed to belong to the suspect, was later found by a Tewksbury Police K-9 unit behind a residence on Grasshopper Lane.
Despite extensive efforts, including door-to-door searches, the suspect remains at large.
Chief Columbus emphasized the intensity of the search, stating, “We have deployed every asset at our disposal to find this individual, including a door to door search in the area he was last seen.”
The suspect is described as a black male, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, and was last seen wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and mask.
The motive behind the altercation is still under investigation.
