Two-vehicle crash on US Route 7 in Sunderland

SUNDERLAND — A two-vehicle collision on US Route 7 near mile marker 26 resulted in one car being totaled, but no injuries on Aug. 12 at 2:23 p.m., according to the Vermont State Police.

Jerry Tarica, 80, of Middlesex, New Jersey, was driving a 2007 Toyota Rav4 northbound when he attempted to overtake two vehicles during heavy rain.

His vehicle hydroplaned and lost control, striking a 2022 Honda CR-V operated by Mark Jaeger, 63, of Dorset.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.

The crash caused Tarica’s vehicle to be totaled, while Jaeger’s car suffered heavy rear-end damage.

No injuries were reported, and hospitalization was not required for either driver.

The Arlington Fire Department extracted Tarica from his vehicle.

Arlington Rescue, the Bennington County Sheriff’s Department, and Vermont State Police from the Shaftsbury Barracks responded to the scene.

Paul’s Towing and Monarch’s Towing of Manchester removed the damaged vehicles.
