CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after Vermont State Police responded to a reported domestic assault at a residence off Ethan Allen Highway.

At 1:02 p.m., troopers from the Williston barracks were called to the scene where they apprehended 36-year-old David Derick.

An investigation concluded that Derick had inflicted bodily harm on a 39-year-old household member in an incident that also involved a minor.

Derick was charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault, interference with emergency services, and committing an offense in the presence of a child.

Following his arrest, he was processed at the Williston Barracks and later lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility due to an inability to post the $2,500 bail.

Derick is scheduled to appear before the Chittenden County Superior Court on August 12 at 8:30 a.m. to respond to the charges.

The identity of the victim has not been released by authorities due to privacy protections for victims of domestic violence.
