ROCKINGHAM — A Mount Holly man faces multiple charges after allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 91 in Vermont late Friday night.
Timothy R. Hayward, 47, was arrested and charged with DUI #3, gross negligent operation, and reckless endangerment following the incident on Aug. 9.
Vermont State Police troopers from the Westminster Barracks were alerted to a wrong-way driver near Hartford on I-91 at 9:24 p.m. Officers located the vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes near mile marker 39 and initiated measures to stop it.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop near mile marker 36.4 in Rockingham.
Upon speaking with Hayward, troopers observed signs of impairment and determined he was operating the vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.
Hayward was taken into custody and transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing.
He was later released with a citation to appear before the Windham County Superior Court – Criminal Division on Aug. 12 at 12:30 p.m.
This marks Hayward’s third DUI offense, according to police.
The incident caused significant risk to other motorists traveling on I-91 during the busy Friday evening hours.
