Child abduction attempt reported at Johnston park

JOHNSTON — Police are seeking a person of interest following an attempted child abduction at Johnston War Memorial Park on Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to the park at 1583 Hartford Avenue at approximately 3:35 p.m. after receiving a report of the incident, according to the Johnston Police Department.

Authorities described the person of interest as a male in his late 20s to early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall with olive-toned skin and black hair.

He was last seen wearing a white or gray tank top, black and reddish shorts, and carrying a large black water bottle and crossbody bag.

Detective Michael Andreozzi is leading the investigation and urges anyone who was in the park at the time of the incident or has additional information to contact him at (401) 757-3140.

The police department emphasized the importance of public assistance in the ongoing investigation.
