New Bedford man arrested with drugs, guns in Pleasant Street raid

NEW BEDFORD — A local man has been arrested after a narcotics raid uncovered drugs and firearms at a Pleasant Street apartment last Friday.

Narcotics detectives from the New Bedford Police Department executed a search warrant at 1181 Pleasant St., #3, on Aug. 2, resulting in the arrest of 30-year-old Ishmael Mahmoud.

Detective Matthew Couture led the investigation, which culminated in the discovery of a significant quantity of illegal substances and weapons.

Mahmoud was found in possession of over 11 grams of fentanyl, 3.4 grams of cocaine, over 33 grams of methamphetamine, and suboxone strips.

The search also turned up equipment indicative of narcotics distribution, such as cutting agents, digital scales, and packaging materials.

Additionally, Mahmoud was found in possession of a loaded Tristar .45 caliber pistol and a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 revolver.

With a prior conviction for firearm possession from 2016, Mahmoud now faces multiple charges, including two counts of firearms possession with ammunition, trafficking in excess of 10 grams of fentanyl, and possession with intent to distribute various classes of narcotics.

Authorities also seized $366 in cash related to the charges.

The New Bedford Police Department is urging anyone with further information to come forward and provide anonymous tips through their website or by calling 508-99-CRIME.
