National Weather Service issues tornado watch for parts of New York, Vermont

BURLINGTON — The National Weather Service in Burlington issued a tornado watch for several areas in New York and Vermont, including one county in northern New York and three counties in Vermont, effective until 10 p.m. EDT tonight.

Tornado Watch 617 was announced at 1:27 p.m. EDT and will remain in effect until 10:00 p.m. EDT, covering the following regions: Essex County in northern New York, and Addison, Rutland and Windsor counties in Vermont.

Cities within the watch area include Crown Point Center, Middlebury, Minerva, Newcomb, Paradox, Ray Brook, Rutland, Schroon Lake, Springfield, Ticonderoga, Vergennes, and White River Junction.

Residents in these areas are advised to monitor weather conditions and be prepared to take cover if tornadoes develop.
