Man convicted of sexually assaulting minor in Meriden

MERIDEN — A Superior Court jury today found Evans Espinal, 37, of New York, guilty on multiple charges, including Sexual Assault in the Second and Fourth Degrees and Risk of Injury to a Minor.

Espinal was convicted of two counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree and one count of Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree, as well as six counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor, according to a release from John P. Doyle, Jr., New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney.

The victim, aged 13, was assaulted over a two-year period.

The trial, presided over by the Honorable David L. Zagaja, revealed the extent of Espinal’s crimes following an investigation by the Meriden Police Department.

Assistant State’s Attorney Nichol Peco led the prosecution with support from Certified Legal Intern Milo Cortese.

State’s Attorney Doyle expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Meriden Police Department and lauded Peco’s dedication to prosecuting those who prey on children.

The office emphasized its commitment to holding perpetrators accountable for such egregious acts against vulnerable victims.

Espinal’s sentencing is set for Oct. 16 in Meriden Superior Court.
