Windsor residents help clear road after tree falls, traffic resumes

1 min read

WINDSOR — Two quick-thinking residents, Kelly Pugh and Hunter Colson, received praise from the Windsor Police Department and local motorists after their efforts helped reopen a lane of traffic on Rt 5, which had been blocked by a fallen tree.

The incident occurred near Oak Knoll Dairy at the 1528 mark on Rt 5, prompting officials to close the road and advise drivers to use alternate routes, including 44A and 12A.

With traffic at a standstill and the Agency of Transportation (AOT) en route to handle the situation, Pugh and Colson utilized an excavator they were towing to move part of the tree, allowing for a single lane to open for alternating traffic flow.

By 6:05 p.m., vehicles were able to pass through the area in alternating directions, and at 6:20 p.m., the road was fully reopened after the AOT arrived and cleared the remaining debris.

The community’s cooperative spirit and the swift actions taken by Pugh and Colson ensured that the disruption caused by the downed tree was minimized, and normal traffic resumed promptly.
