WEBSTER — A local man was taken into custody Thursday evening after allegedly damaging a vehicle and assaulting police officers who responded to the incident.
Webster Police Department reported that at around 8 p.m. on July 25, officers were dispatched to Granite Street following a 911 call about an unknown man vandalizing a vehicle and fleeing the scene.
Sergeant Reed, on evening shift, spotted a man matching the caller’s description at the intersection of Granite and Lake Street.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Carlos Sulsona of Granite Street, became confrontational when approached by Sergeant Reed.
Sulsona, who was shouting and gesturing aggressively, also recognized the 911 caller and began causing a commotion.
Officer Donovan arrived to back up Sergeant Reed, but attempts to calm Sulsona were unsuccessful.
As officers moved to arrest him, Sulsona struck Sergeant Reed multiple times, dislodging the officer’s body-worn camera, and attempted to flee, leading to a brief foot chase.
Sulsona punched Sergeant Reed in the face when officers caught up with him in a nearby backyard.
Despite Sergeant Reed deploying his Taser several times, Sulsona continued to resist aggressively.
Officers Cedeno and Caruso arrived to assist and, after a struggle, Sulsona was handcuffed and arrested.
Charges against Sulsona include Vandalize Property, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, and Resisting Arrest.
His bail was set at $140, and he was arraigned at Dudley District Court on July 26.
