North Haven vape shop owner arrested for illegal drug sales

NORTH HAVEN — Detectives from the North Haven Police Department carried out a search and seizure warrant today at a local vape shop, uncovering a trove of illegal drugs and resulting in the arrest of the shop’s owner.

The raid, which took place at Safer Vaporz on 342 State Street, led to the discovery of psilocybin mushrooms, loose leaf marijuana, marijuana edibles, and other contraband.

Police stated that the items were packaged for sale.

Among the contraband were nearly 100 packages of marijuana edibles with THC levels significantly surpassing the legal limit of 1 milligram per serving and 5 milligrams per container.

Some of the edibles contained up to 50 milligrams per serving and 500 milligrams per container.

Barry Snyder, 61, of East Haven, was arrested on the premises and faces charges including the Illegal Sale of Prescription Drugs, Operation of a Drug Factory, Illegal Possession with Intent to Sell Marijuana, and Illegal Possession with Intent to Sell Hallucinogens.

After posting bond, Snyder was released and is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 15.

Additionally, the Department of Consumer Protection, which accompanied detectives during the raid, is reviewing Safer Vaporz’s business license.

Officials commended the effective collaboration of all parties involved in the operation.
