Fugitive in Vermont police shooting captured in New Hampshire

LEBANON — A Rhode Island man wanted for charges including attempted murder in a Vermont Trooper-involved shooting was arrested by New Hampshire State Police, authorities said Tuesday.

Brenden Sackal, 30, of Rockville, Rhode Island, was taken into custody on Monday after being treated at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for injuries sustained during the July 14 incident in Burke.

Following medical clearance, Sackal was transferred to Grafton County Jail on Aug. 6.

The fugitive from justice warrant for Sackal included charges of attempted aggravated murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and other offenses related to the police shooting and a pursuit.

He faces additional firearms charges in Rhode Island.

Sackal is due for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. today at Haverhill District Court.

The Vermont State Police are handling the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
