Cheshire County residents targeted by phone scam impersonating sheriff’s deputies

1 min read

KEENE — Several residents have reported receiving fraudulent phone calls today from individuals claiming to be deputies from the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.

The callers have been using the names of actual deputies and alleging that they have an arrest warrant for the person they’ve called.

They then offer to settle the supposed warrant if a payment is made over the phone.

The Sheriff’s Office has issued a scam alert to inform the public that these calls are not legitimate.

Officials emphasized that the office does not handle arrest warrants in this manner and does not solicit payment over the phone to resolve legal matters.

Residents who receive such calls are urged to hang up immediately and contact the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office directly for verification.

The Sheriff’s Office advises the community to remain vigilant and to not provide personal information or payment to unsolicited callers.
