HILLSBORO — A high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash and the arrest of two individuals on Monday.
Antrim Police responded to a call at 4:48 p.m. at the T-Bird Mini-mart regarding a male using narcotics in a vehicle.
The vehicle, which was reported stolen from Nashua, was located heading toward Hillsboro on Route 202.
In an effort to stop the vehicle, Hillsboro officers deployed spike strips at two locations before it reached the city.
Despite their efforts, the driver, later identified as Michael Stephens, 30, from Manchester, fled from officers at speeds exceeding 90 mph.
The pursuit continued as Stephens drove the spiked vehicle near a Ford dealership and past a McDonald’s, eventually taking the westbound Route 9 on-ramp at a high rate of speed.
With three tires deflated, the vehicle crashed over the median on the side of a hill.
Stephens then fled on foot into the woods toward Gibbson Road.
A plainclothes detective pursued Stephens through the terrain and apprehended him minutes later.
Stephens faces multiple charges, including DUI, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, disobeying an officer, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled drug, and receiving stolen property.
An adult female passenger was also taken into custody at the crash site.
The Henniker Police and the Newbury Police K9 unit, who were incidentally passing through the area, assisted in the operation.
They aided in locating narcotics believed to have been discarded by Stephens in the woods.
