Springfield police seize high-capacity firearm, arrest two after gun call

SPRINGFIELD — Two suspects were arrested and a loaded high-capacity firearm was seized after Springfield Police officers responded to a gun call on Fernbank Road on Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. when officers were alerted to an individual waving a handgun in the parking lot and a subsequent popping sound.

Upon their arrival at approximately 9:50 p.m., police detained 18-year-old Yadriel Camacho and 19-year-old Alexmy Rodriguez on the 200 block of Fernbank Road.

A loaded firearm, with the capacity to hold 16 rounds of ammunition, was discovered in plain view inside the suspects’ vehicle.

Additionally, officers found and seized over 90 bags of marijuana.

Camacho and Rodriguez, both residents of Springfield, face multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm on a public way, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, and possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug.
