SOUTHINGTON — Police arrested a Waterbury man on multiple charges Monday evening after stopping a reported stolen vehicle at a local grocery store parking lot and finding firearms and drugs.

Lee Hulett, 52, was apprehended at approximately 8:14 p.m. on Aug. 5, after Southington Police Department officers received an alert regarding a stolen black 2023 Kia Forte entering the town.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Waterbury.

Upon locating the car at the Stop and Shop at 505 North Main Street, officers made contact and detained Hulett without incident.

A visible firearm and narcotics prompted further search, with Police K-9 Kay alerting to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.

The search yielded 29 wax folds of suspected Fentanyl, powdered cocaine, drug packaging materials, electronic scales, narcotics paraphernalia, two large fixed-blade knives, around 11 grams of crack cocaine, and $105 in cash.

A subsequent investigation determined the seized firearm was stolen from Redding during a motor vehicle burglary.

Hulett faces charges including possession with intent to sell narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon in a vehicle, theft of a firearm, larceny in the second degree, larceny of a motor vehicle, and illegal transfer/purchase of a revolver.

He was held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond at Southington Police Headquarters.

Hulett is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Aug. 6.
