Fryeburg woman arrested on drug trafficking charges

FRYEBURG — Alyssa L. Mendez of Fryeburg was arrested Friday on multiple drug trafficking charges following a year-long investigation by local police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, authorities said.

The Fryeburg Police Department took Mendez into custody on an arrest warrant that includes two counts of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, a Class A felony, and two counts of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, a Class B felony.

Each count of the Class A felony carries a potential 10-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $50,000, while the Class B felony could result in a 5-10 year prison term and a fine of up to $20,000 per offense.

Mendez, a resident of Portland Street, was apprehended without incident.

Her bail has been set at $15,000 cash, with a bail hearing date yet to be determined.

Chief Aaron Mick of the Fryeburg Police Department expressed his department’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and thanked the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for their collaboration in the investigation leading to Mendez’s arrest.
