SPRINGFIELD — A coordinated effort by local law enforcement led to the arrest of Martin Gonyea, a fugitive facing charges in both Vermont and New Hampshire, police said.
Officers from the Springfield, Chester, and Weathersfield police departments worked together on July 26 to apprehend Gonyea after a brief pursuit that ended without incident.
Springfield Police Officer Singleton was patrolling near Spring Street around 8:35 p.m. when he spotted Gonyea, who fled into a residence upon noticing the officer.
Gonyea tried to escape from the back of the property but was quickly confirmed as the suspect and retreated inside.
With additional officers arriving on the scene, Gonyea eventually surrendered and was arrested at approximately 8:55 p.m.
Gonyea was processed at the Springfield Police Department and received a criminal citation to appear in Windsor County Criminal Court on July 29.
He is facing charges of being a fugitive from justice and for an in-state arrest warrant.
Gonyea was then lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000 cash or surety.
