Montville police investigate credit card skimmers found at local 7/11

MONTVILLE — A vigilant 7/11 customer discovered credit card skimmers on two payment terminals at the convenience store located at 2178 Route 32 on Aug. 4.

The customer, who noticed the electronic devices attached to the credit card pads, promptly removed them and alerted the store employees.

The 7/11 staff immediately reached out to the Montville Police Department to report the incident.

Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects and determine when the skimming devices were installed.

It remains unclear how long the skimmers had been in place before their discovery.

The Montville Police Department advises anyone who has recently used their credit or debit cards at the 7/11 on Route 32 to closely monitor their statements for any unauthorized transactions and to report any irregularities.

Additionally, the Montville Police shared useful tips from the New London Police Department on their social media about how to spot and avoid falling victim to electronic skimmers.

They are encouraging the public to stay informed and vigilant to protect their financial information from such fraudulent activities.
