1 min read

AVON — A late-night call for help on Aug. 3 led to a multi-agency rescue operation after an 18-year-old female hiker fell from a rocky ledge while disoriented on the trails near Brian Lane.

The Avon Police Department received the distress call around 11:50 p.m. from a male companion who reported that he and a friend lost their way and during their attempt to return, the female had a serious fall.

He was unable to find her in the darkness and uncertain of her location.

Local and surrounding fire departments were immediately activated, and a K9 officer from West Hartford was dispatched to assist in the search.

The responders’ collaborative efforts successfully located the young woman, who was intermittently conscious and had suffered multiple significant injuries.

Although a Lifestar medical helicopter was initially requested, the bad weather conditions made it impossible to deploy.

Nevertheless, the consistent efforts of the local fire departments and police ensured the victim was carried out of the woods to receive urgent medical care.

She was then transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The initial investigation by the Avon Police suggests the fall was accidental, with no suspicious circumstances identified.

Follow-up inquiries with the injured party will be conducted, and all family members have been informed about the incident.
