POLAND — A 21-year-old man is in critical condition following a near-drowning incident at Range Pond State Park on March 8.
Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with Poland Fire-Rescue, were dispatched to the park at 2:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a drowning.
According to the preliminary investigation, the man was swimming with friends when he became fatigued and attempted to return to shore.
He went underwater during the swim back.
His friends located him submerged and brought him to the shore, where they initiated life-saving measures.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is currently in critical condition.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim at this time to protect his privacy.
