EASTON — A powerful storm swept through the area last night, leaving residents without power and causing extensive damage to roads and infrastructure.

The Easton Police Department has reported that United Illuminating is working to restore power, but there is currently no specific timeframe for when residents can expect their service to be back.

Several roads have been closed due to downed wires and fallen trees.

Affected streets include 50 Buck Hill Rd, 21 Dogwood Dr, 60 Beers Rd, 200 Wilson Rd, and 448 Rock House Rd near Valley Rd.

Authorities urge the public to avoid these areas, not to drive or walk through them, and to respect the caution tape and barricades.

In response to the crisis, the Easton Police Department has established a charging station in its lobby for those in need of powering their devices.

Additionally, non-potable water is available at the department; residents are reminded to bring their own bucket or jug to fill.

Bottled water can be obtained from the Fire Department.

Residents requiring assistance are encouraged to contact the Easton Police Department at 203-268-4111, or dial 911 in the event of an emergency.

The police urge the community to stay safe and to report any hazards they encounter.
