RICHMOND — A two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning on Rt. 201, Brunswick Road, resulted in one fatality and a second driver sustaining minor injuries.
At 6:01 a.m., the Sagadahoc County Communications Center received emergency calls about the accident just north of Thorofare Road.
Upon arrival, first responders from the Richmond Fire Department, along with a deputy from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, found the road obstructed by a pickup truck lying on its side and another pickup engulfed in flames.
The burning vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, had its operator trapped inside and despite efforts from firefighters, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other vehicle, a 2003 Ford F-250, was driven by William Miller IV, 58, from Richmond, who suffered minor injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest the Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound when it veered across the center line into the path of the Ford F-250.
Miller attempted to avoid the collision but his truck overturned.
The unidentified operator of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for identification.
Deputy William Hagan of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is leading the ongoing investigation with Det.
Brian Carlton of the SCSO reconstructing the crash.
Support at the scene and in the investigation was provided by the Topsham Police Department, Maine State Police, and the Richmond Police Department.
Rt. 201 was closed for around four and a half hours with traffic rerouted during the investigation.
