RISP make arrest for obstructing officer during traffic stop

RICHMOND — Rhode Island State Police arrested a Coventry man Thursday for allegedly obstructing an officer during a routine traffic stop in Richmond.

Richard C. Antonio Jr., 27, was taken into custody at 5:15 p.m. on Nooseneck Hill Road, according to state police.

Antonio was charged with one count of obstructing an officer in execution of duty.

He was transported to the Hope Valley Barracks for processing before being specially arraigned.

Following his arraignment, Antonio was transferred to the Adult Correctional Institution-Intake Service Center, where he is being held as a bail violator.

The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop conducted by troopers on Nooseneck Hill Road in Richmond.

Authorities did not provide further details about the nature of the traffic stop or the specific actions that led to the obstruction charge.

State police said the investigation is ongoing.
